Even before there was Serenity (and CSTS<\/a>) there have been Browncoats involved in charity.\u00a0 In an attempt to save Firefly from cancellation Browncoats organized letter campaigns, but also charity drives.\u00a0 Attempting to show Fox – and sponsors – that fans had money\u00a0 and were worth courting, Browncoats donated brown coats (and a gorram bunch of other items) to the homeless of CA and other fan locations.\u00a0 Your 2015 Captain was a part of these efforts.\u00a0 Sadly it has been lost to my memory how much we collected, but it was a few hundred thousand to be sure.<\/p>\n

\"Cant<\/a>Before any of that, Joss Whedon and his family have been equality supporters for generations.\u00a0After Serenity came to be, an avid fan began Can’t Stop the Serenity (CSTS)<\/a> to keep her flying while raising money for Joss’s favored charity: Equality Now<\/a>.\u00a0 It has since taken off across the globe and flies annually from May to October. This year CSTS Celebrates 10 Years and $1,000,000 Raised for Charity<\/em><\/a>!<\/div>\n

\"Can't<\/a>For those near to this year’s Ball, our Can’t Stop The Serenity event is located in Norfolk, VA.\u00a0\u00a0 More information can be found by contacting the Tidewater Browncoats<\/a> who spearhead its annual organization.\u00a0 (Find the location of your local CSTS here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

The Browncoat Ball 2015 continues this fine tradition with two raffles.\u00a0 The first raffle is simply a thank you to our attendees.\u00a0 Tickets cannot<\/strong> be bought but are for attending the Ball.\u00a0 One ticket per guest and one item per guest, this raffle ensures Everyone Wins.\u00a0 First come, first win, some maybe come early to get your top pick!<\/p>\n

Our other raffle has tickets which will be issued through participation in Ball events or can be purchased.\u00a0 This is our way of thanking you for spending time on our little moon, sharing in the love and intellectualism so prevalent in Whedon’s work.<\/p>\n
